- 4 cups apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 2 tsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F and line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix flour, sugars, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, and cut in cold butter until crumbly.
- Reserve 1½ cups of the crumb mixture for topping.
- Press remaining mixture into the bottom of the pan for the crust.
- In another bowl, toss apples with sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla.
- Spread apple filling evenly over the crust.
- Sprinkle reserved crumb mixture over the apples.
- Bake for 45–50 minutes or until golden and bubbly.
- Cool completely before slicing into bars.
