  • 4 cups apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugars, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, and cut in cold butter until crumbly.
  3. Reserve 1½ cups of the crumb mixture for topping.
  4. Press remaining mixture into the bottom of the pan for the crust.
  5. In another bowl, toss apples with sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla.
  6. Spread apple filling evenly over the crust.
  7. Sprinkle reserved crumb mixture over the apples.
  8. Bake for 45–50 minutes or until golden and bubbly.
  9. Cool completely before slicing into bars.
